This time it wasn’t so hard to find kohlrabi. On Saturday we were talking about it with my girlfriend, and I found out that in Barking, which is half an hour distance from me, you can find it easily at the market. This is how I got four beautiful pieces on Sunday, with leaves! Of course we ate one of them raw with the kids. The rest was planned for a soup. The taste is fabulous!! Just I still don’t understand why it’s so hard to find it…. You can find turnip anytime, but it’s not the same….
Ingredients: 2-3 pieces of kohlrabi, a handful of rice, 200 g of minced meat ( I use usually turkey, but it can be any kind), one egg, salt, oil, flour.
I clean the kohlrabies, and with a spoon I take out the middle part of them. I start to cook them for at least 20 minutes, ‘till half cooked. I don’t throw the boiling water away. Meanwhile I prepare the meat. I mix it with the egg, rice, salt. I take out the kohlrabies and fill them with the meat mixture. From the rest I make meat balls and add them to the soup.
I chop the rest of the kohlrabies (what I took out from them before), and in a sauce pan I put a spoon of oil and heat it together with the chopped kohlrabies and I add some paprika and flour. I add the water in which I cooked the kohlrabi before. Add the meat balls and the stuffed vegetables. I add the chopped leaves as well.
I serve it with chopped parsley leaves and sour cream!
